Leadership Pathways – Session 3
Last night Kate Rowley (Director of Education) and Chris McCall (Executive Principal), welcomed colleagues to the third round of Expert Knowledge sessions as part of the Delta Leadership Pathways Programme. Despite the dark and wet weather, an amazing 120 colleagues were in attendance.
Ruth Beckett (Associate Executive Principal), commenced the primary session by detailing how we can successfully lead inclusion in our own environments. Ruth provided hints and tips on how to adapt learning to individuals and ensure that children feel safe and like they belong in their own schools.

Ryan Schofield (Associate Executive Principal), followed this with some amazing examples of leading teaching and learning. Ryan gave examples of exemplar practice, explaining the need to truly understand the mechanics round creating a culture of high expectations and how to identify good and better teaching practice daily. Ryan provided hints and tips on how to support colleagues and provide opportunities for all pupils to exceed.


Dr Phil Smith, Director of Education, kicked off the secondary session, which focused on effective teaching and learning through Deltaβs Learning Principles. Phil talked about leadership and the ability to influence people, providing hints and tips on how to influence culture both in the classroom and around the school.




This was followed by Sam Sheedy (Principal) who focused on the 7 components and 7 essentials to enhance learning. Sam delivered the session interactively, getting the audience to think on their feet and provide real world examples of how they ensure consistency in their environments.
Sarah Stokes (Principal), focused on learning above teaching with participants really engaged with identifying missed opportunities and considering the needs of the individuals to maximise learning opportunities.


Anna Rooney (Executive Principal), rounded off the evening with an amazing session on ‘Leading Inclusion’, explaining how everyone leads on this area, and everyone has a part to play, just as they do with teaching and learning. Anna detailed the definition of Inclusion and and how we can ensure that every school is an inclusive school, providing children with what they need to feel safe and successful. Anna finished the session stating that culture eats strategy for breakfast and received lots of thanks from participants as they left for the evening.
