Careers Programme
The CEIAG – (Careers Education Information Advice Guidance) provision in a Delta Academy has been designed to positively support you to acquire the educational, social and employability skills necessary for lifelong success in a diverse and changing world of work. Our Careers Programme is personalised to the academy in conjunction with our partners at Progress Careers.
At Goole Academy, our Careers Programme is designed to inspire, inform and prepare every student for their future education, training and employment pathways. We believe that high-quality careers education should be accessible to all students, equipping them with the knowledge, skills and confidence to make informed decisions about their next steps.
We work closely with students, parents and carers to provide timely careers information, advice and guidance. Updates and opportunities are shared through school newsletters, the MCAS system and parents’ evenings. Students also benefit from impartial one-to-one careers guidance interviews with our qualified Careers Adviser from Progress Careers, helping them to explore their interests, understand their options and make well-informed decisions about their future pathways.
Provision
CEIAG is embedded throughout school life and is delivered through a wide range of opportunities, such as:
- Subject Lessons, – Information and discussions with a subject specific focus to help you make decisions about careers based on subject knowledge, transferable skills and labour market information.
- Tutor Sessions, Assemblies & EPC Lessons – Discussions and resources about post-14 and post-16 options (including course and institution types, employability skills, planning and preparing).
- Step Up Days – Events such as employability days (Careers fairs, interview days, careers challenges, workplace experiences).
Information, Advice & Guidance is provided through:
- Careers pop ups & Careers Fairs – Employers, Colleges and Universities will visit the school on a regular basic to talk to you about their industry and how to train and qualify for role in that sector.
- Careers enrichment – An enrichment session ran in collaboration with progress careers that will invite employers and/or post-16 providers in to discuss opportunities within their establishment.
- Careers Portal – You have access to our online Careers Portal Through progress careers.
- Unifrog careers tool – provides up-to-date information on careers, further and higher education, apprenticeships and progression opportunities, while enabling students to research pathways, record experiences and make informed decisions about their futures. Unifrog – The universal destinations platform.
- Results Service – a team of advisers will be able to talk through your needs on results day to help you confirm your intended destination.
- Qualified 1-2-1 Guidance – You also have access to a qualified careers advisor, who will provide confidential and impartial advice to students on the information they have received or to help guide students to make fully informed decisions.
- Planning for the future – if you have a career idea but want to find out the best route for you or if you have no career ideas our advisers can help you create career ideas around your interests and skills.
- GCSE & A Level Options – Choosing your options and what would best suit you.
- Apprenticeships – Finding work or an apprenticeship, including job hunting techniques including mock interviews
- Parents Evenings – Access to careers advisers in a variety of ways including individual meetings, drop-in sessions, enrichment activities, parents and option evenings and on results days
- Technology – Information and updates will also be available on notice boards, plasma screens and the websites
Careers provision (Gatsby Benchmarks, Equalex Framework and Provider Access Legislation)
As a Trust, we have key aims to ensure the life chances of our pupils. These are to raise the aspirations of our pupils and to engage their parents, carers and families in this process.
Our careers curriculum is carefully planned and mapped against the Gatsby Benchmarks, the Equalex Framework and the requirements of the Provider Access Legislation (PAL), while also reflecting the needs and opportunities within our local community and labour market. This ensures that students receive meaningful, relevant and impartial careers education, with opportunities to learn about the full range of education and training pathways, including apprenticeships, technical education and academic routes, preparing them for successful futures.
Gatsby Benchmarks
Our planned programmes support students and ensure they receive the relevant careers education, information, advice and guidance that is suitable for their age and ability by implementation of the 8 Gatsby Career Benchmarks, written by Sir John Holman, a former Headteacher and founder of the National STEM Learning Centre.
