Teaching & Learning
We believe that all young people deserve the highest quality of education which will engage, inspire and challenge; so that everyone meets their full potential. We strive to create a safe and happy learning environment which promotes independence and high expectations for all students.
We are determined that our students will be successful and will leave us as confident, highly educated young people, who are able to contribute positively to society.
We do this by:
- Raising achievement through quality first teaching which both enthuses and motivates; inspiring all to fulfil their potential;
- Ensuring student voice is at the heart of all we do to enable children to become confident, resilient and reflective independent learners;
- Offering a broad and varied curriculum which ensures that all children can read, write and are numerate;
- Having an open and welcoming environment where everyone feels happy and included.
The school uses a variety of groupings depending on the Year group and the subjects concerned. Assessment is an integral part of teaching and learning, it allows teachers and learners to see where they are going, and how they can get there. Teachers use a variety of methods to assess student work i.e. book marking, tests, homework, in-class assessment, and different feedback strategies. We pride ourselves on a flexible, engaging and supportive learning environment where pupils are given a variety of learning experiences. All staff work towards students achieving a minimum of 3 levels of progress from KS2 to KS4.
Over the course of the year, students at Goole can expect to receive two reviews of their attainment along with an indication of how well they are achieving for progress and effort. Alongside this, parents are also offered at least one opportunity within a year to meet and discuss their child’s progress with their subject teachers.
